Electrical Contractor in Mississauga

We split Mississauga work roughly by when the house was built. Port Credit, Lorne Park, Clarkson, Mineola and Cooksville have many homes from the 1950s to 1970s. Churchill Meadows, Meadowvale, Erin Mills and Streetsville were largely built from the 1980s onward, with bigger services and modern wiring.

Townhouses and EV charging

Mississauga has a lot of townhouses, and they are where charger installs get complicated. Freehold towns usually only need a load check on the panel and a route to the garage. Condo townhouses often have electrical service or parking areas that the corporation controls, so the board will usually need to approve the install before work starts. Ask your property manager early; we can provide the details they request.

Second units in newer neighbourhoods

Many Churchill Meadows and Erin Mills homes are being set up for extended family or a tenant. Electrically, a basement unit needs its own circuits, interconnected smoke and CO alarms, and often a subpanel. The City of Mississauga registers second units and has fire and building requirements beyond the electrical work.

Older homes south of the QEW

In Port Credit, Lorne Park and Cooksville, we see 100A panels and, in some 1960s and 1970s builds, aluminum branch wiring. Signs include “AL” markings on visible cable, outlets or switches that run warm, and flickering lights. Rated connectors and devices can keep aluminum wiring safe, but it should be inspected.

Going from 100A to 200A covers a new panel, typically a new meter base and service cable, an ESA permit and inspection, and coordination with Alectra for the disconnect. People usually need it when adding an EV charger, a heat pump, a second unit, or a large renovation on top of existing air conditioning.

Most wiring work in Ontario needs an ESA notification and inspection; we file it for you.

Mississauga FAQ

Our Meadowvale home already has 200A. Do we still need a load calculation for a charger?

Yes. Service size isn’t the whole picture; existing loads and free panel space matter too. It’s quick and avoids surprises.

Can you add exterior lighting on a large Lorne Park lot?

Yes, including underground runs to garden and pathway lights, with the required outdoor-rated wiring and GFCI protection.

Can we stay in the house during a panel upgrade?

Yes. The power is off for part of the day while the panel and service are changed.
